History of Student Fellowship at "The Barn"
Our Last meeting on a Cold Fall Night 2003
It all Began...
On the first Sunday night of September of 2003, 140 students and faculty gathered for the first "large group" Bible Study at the Barn. The Barn, located on the Erskine Chaplain's property about 5 minutes from campus, was once a horse barn but has been slightly remodeled to make it more fitting for a large group gathering. Students sit on bales of hay and eat burgers and dogs provided by their meal plan with ARAMARK. We sing Barn Music (RUF songs) for about 30 minutes and our Chaplain/Campus Minister (Paul Patrick) teaches for about 30 minutes. The rustic, country setting at The Barn provides an ideal location for our weekly Sunday night cookout and Bible study.
The Barn "Ministry-Service" Team does all the setting up, cooking, and clean up!

Other Opportunties for Student Growth
Campus Ministry at Erskine provides several other opportunities for students to grow in their faith during their years of study. Of those, staff and student led Small Groups are a great opportunity to take advantage of. The focus of each group ranges from Bible studies, to prayer groups, to book clubs. While Bible studies and prayer groups are self explanatory, book clubs might need some explaining.
Students at Erskine are busy with school and busy with extracurricular activities. The casual reading of some valuable pieces of Christian literature can easily go undone. The book club allows an opportunity for a group of students to do this together, out loud, and on a weekly basis. Through the course of 4 years, you'd be surprised how beneficial this can be!
These are just a sampling of many opportunities in campus ministry at
Erskine College which all emphasize the timeless truths of the historic
Christian faith and their relevance to our lives today.
